Sustainable Westport Zero Food Waste Challenge Grant

May 18 @ 8:30 am - June 30 @ 11:30 am

Free

The Town of Westport, in partnership with Sustainable Westport, has implemented a pilot food scrap recycling program. Already, since the inception of the program in July 2020,  OVER 500 families are participating and 10 tons of food scraps are being diverted  from the incinerator each month!

Our Goal: Double food scrap recycling participation in the next 6 months!

We need your financial support to inform, educate and engage residents, with the goal of converting them to become fellow food-scrap recyclers. For a limited time, Sustainable CT will match any donation we receive – to double our impact.

Please go to Patronicity.com/ZeroFoodWaste to donate – or point your phone camera here!…

Why is this important?

Food scraps are valuable!  When converted into compost they capture valuable nutrients and water, and return them to the ground, sequestering carbon, improving soil quality and cleaning water. And besides, food scraps are heavy, expensive to transport and don’t burn well in the waste to energy incinerator,  where all of Westport’s solid waste goes.

Two Ways You Can Help

  1. Donate funds to enable Sustainable Westport to get the word out about food scrap recycling.
  2. Volunteer to help transform Westport into a more sustainable place to live, work and enjoy. We need sustainability enthusiasts, writers, bloggers, social media enthusiasts, event and project volunteers, fundraisers, creative arts talent, etc.

Our Local Supporters’ Giveaway

In addition to your donation being matched by Sustainable CT, you will also be entered in to a giveaway from our generous, local supporters:

Please join us today and tell your friends and neighbors

Please help us reach our short-term goal of diverting at least 25% of residential food scraps from the waste stream; part of our long-term goal to reach Net-Zero impact across energy, water and waste, by 2050 or sooner.
If you need your home composting kit (so you can take food scraps to the transfer station, or get them picked up by a local hauler), please head over to Earthplace at 10 Woodside Lane…
