Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story – A Conversation
May 11, 2020 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
May 11th at 8:00 PM
B2020’s Environmental Film Series Goes Virtual
The Environmental Film Series is continuing virtually with an at-home screening of Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story followed by an engaging conversation with two local food waste experts on May 11, 2020 at 8:00 PM.
Meet our Experts!
Leslie Lampert, food waste reduction guru and creator of the Scrappy Chef Series and Ladle of Love proprietor, will join Martha Elder, a food rescue advocate and Executive Director at Second Chance Foods, for a lively discussion looking at the many opportunities we have to reduce food waste in our community.
Ms. Lampert will share creative ideas for repurposing food scraps into tasty meals and whipping up delicious dinners with your pantry contents, which has become a daily activity since the New York State mandate to social distance and avoid unnecessary excursions went into effect.
Ms. Elder will reveal the important work of Second Chance Foods, a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing unsold, un-served, and aesthetically imperfect food and distributing it in an effort to reduce food waste and food insecurity.
Both Ms. Lampert and Ms. Elder have creative ideas for reducing food waste at home and in the community and are a source of inspiration. Their insights will open our eyes to the waste that is happening in our kitchens, grocery stores, and restaurants, and provide us with recipes to make and actions to take that will reduce waste, lower greenhouse gas emissions and help those in need.
Watch the movie!
Prior to the online event on April 13th, community members are invited to watch Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story (available on Amazon Prime for $3.99). Filmmakers Jen Rustemeyer and Grant Baldwin challenged themselves to eat only discarded food for six months while exploring the world of food waste and food rescue in this witty and surprising documentary.
